Abstract

This paper analyzes sentential negation in Ishkashimi (Eastern Iranian), arguing that a functional head Neg occupies a position in between Aspect (Asp) and T, but below Perfect (Prf) (T > Prf > Neg > Asp). Evidence for this position comes from tense-conditioned negative allomorphy in Ishkashimi, where na- serves as the standard negator and nǝst- appears in the past tense. The analysis of the allomorphy is couched in Nanosyntax (Starke 2009).
