Abstract

In several languages, the semantics comparable to that of only can be expressed with a bi-partite construction, which consists of a negation marker and a focus particle. This work investigates one such construction in the Chechen language. I try to show that its properties are not captured by the existing analyses of such constructions and to explore some alternative approaches.
