The verb 'tji:x' in Barguzin Buryat: A case of overt surface anaphora

Abstract

This paper examines the verb 'tji:x' ‘do so’ in Barguzin Buryat. This verb serves as a proform, which, as the research shows, can substitute various structures. I provide a description of the functional distribution of the verb 'tji:x' and propose that this anaphoric construction is in fact a type of ellipsis, or a case of overt surface anaphora.
